Ok. So, I love sports. I am a huge fan of just about anything, and my dream job would be to work for Mythbusters....but, if they are not hiring, ESPN would be pretty darn cool too!!
Growing up in New Jersey, it is only natural that my favorite football team would be the Oakland Raiders. Well, ok. Maybe that doesn't make much sense. I became a Raiders fan when I had no concept of money, but still somehow went home with piles of it as a kid after they upset the Washington Redskins in the SuperBowl (1983). Before the game my father held both teams' hats in front of me and told me to pick one. Hmmm....a black and silver pirate...ooorrr a maroon and gold Indian? I'll take the pirate!!! Nuff' said.
Hockey is my passion. I wished throughout my entire childhood that I was given talent in hockey, unfortunately, 3rd line varsity high school was about as good as it got. Nevertheless, hockey is my passion. The New Jersey Devils are my team. My family started going to Devils games in 1983 (big year for me in sports) and never looked back. I was there when they won their first Stanley Cup in a four game SWEEP over the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings. Well....I am gonna move on, cause when it comes to hockey, I could go on forever....
Baseball. I was given talent in baseball. I didn't want to play baseball. I was raised with Yankee pinstripes on everything from my bedsheets to my underwear(under-roos...you remember those!!). I quit baseball in high school. I quit being a fan at that time too. Shortly afterwards, the Yankees started winning World Series titles, but I felt nothing, and didn't want to be a "bandwagon" guy anyway. Fast forward 5-10 years and I am living in Arizona just 10 minutes from where the Diamondbacks play. Guess what? Baseball is fun again!! Not only that, but just 2 years later they are playing the YANKEES in the World Series!!! I couldn't do it....GO D'BACKS!!!
Basketball. I always enjoyed the college game better. I think the NBA has almost turned into a 60 minute highlight reel that is not much of a game anymore. For college, I am Dukie. My sister is one of the luckiest people on the planet to have gone there when the Blue Devils brought home back-to-back national titles! The energy from watching them squeak by Kentucky is something I will never forget. But, if I had to chose NBA, I gotta go (new) hometown and pick the Suns...despite their current dismantling. :-(
Golf - Phil Mickelson (RIP to the late Payne Stewart) NASCAR - Sorry, I drink microbrews. Boxing - Uh...I mean UFC - Chuck Liddell. Soccer - Arsenal. Olympics - Jamaica (I like underdogs) Tennis - Who is the "hot" Russian these days?..yea...that one! Sumo - That guy from Hawaii...First ever American Grand_____ (fill in top level of sumo). That is about it for now.
Stay tuned for me to rant on Shaq, performance enhancing drugs, and 18yr old athletes asking for $10million contracts!!!
